SIAAP and ProCeas® in waste water management
Mrs Emilie Manjossen, Expertise and prospective department Manager in SIAAP, talks about her experience using AP2E products…
Can you introduce SIAAP and your service?
Emilie Manjossen : SIAAP is an Interdepartmental Union which manages the collection, transportation and treatment of the wastewater of Paris and its suburbs. This represents 2.5 million m3 / day for a population of 9 million of people. SIAAP has 6 wastewater treatment plants in Paris and 450 km of networks. My service is specialized in emission risks / odor nuisances that occur on SIAAP plants and networks. We try to find ways to fight against odors, we assist plants whenever malodours occur on their processes (failing deodorization, nitrifying basins producing odors…).
What problems brought SIAAP consider the ProCeas as a new analytical solution?
E M : We needed a transportable unit on the field capable of measuring on-line gas in a fast and precise manner. The ProCeas allowed us to perform H2S, CO2 and CH4 campaigns on our plants (during shutdowns which are subject to gas emissions) but also on our network where we meet important odor problems.
What ultimately led you to select the ProCeas?
E M : This device is easily transportable and can remain in operation for a long time time without supervision. In addition, it features some technically advanced analysis, which allows reliable and accurate results in real time. It is very friendly to handle it as an operator.
In what context do you use your ProCeas?
E M : I used the ProCeas for :
- some problematic release of CO2 on nitrifying biofilters
- some follow-up of a deodorizing unit because of the presence of H2S and methyl mercaptans at the exhaust of a plant
- some H2S monitoring during tests of sulfate-reducing bacteria in the laboratory
- and finally monitoring gas concentrations in a digester
